Mail
OK, you got a day off. You don't have to go to work. But work waits for you and a day off usually means a period of catch up when you may be working twice as hard. Take your faithful letter carrier for example. Mail delivery is in the third day of a three day weekend. New Years day and a mourning period for President Ford teamed up on the weekend.

But mail has piled up and three days of mail will have to go out tomorrow. The first of the year is also the first of the month, traditionally a time of heavy mailing.

So you letter carrier is going to have a heavy load tomorrow. Our mail normally comes 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., except on Monday when it's more like 3:00 p.m. Tomorrow we will get Saturday, Sunday*, and Monday mail all at once, so I hope it gets here before dark.

*Mail moves on Sunday, but waits until Monday for delivery.

Loans
Borrowing money will not get you out of debt. Loan companies make it sound that way, but it isn't true. Consolidating debt will increase the amount you owe. You will pay more interest and you will owe it for a longer period of time. Beware especially of "debt consolidation" loans with a balloon payment. They are probably after your house.

Cold weather
The reason it is cold in the Northern Hemisphere during winter is because the sun strikes the surface at a low angle. OK, but that's only part of the reason. In winter, days are short and nights are long. 10 hours of sunshine and 14 hours of dark mean that your area has more cooling time than warming time, so it averages out to cool weather. In the summer, warming time of 14 hours and 10 hours of cooling average out to warm weather. Of course clouds, winds, latitude, altitude and lots of other factors also play a part, but for most of us the first two factors mentioned are the biggies.
