Fantasy Quest 1 stuck

I'm stuck and not sure what to do. I have.
gold piece, rope, branch, silver key, sword, diamond, nails, shovel, hammer, bow, arrow, club, ticket.
I've been everywhere I can go, can't get into the fortress, the tower or the gardens and can't get past the troll on the bridge.
How do you help the man by the beach and the gnome in the forest? And what's the point of the sorcerer if you can't get anything from him?
Help me get to the next step please
