It's like the hundred dollar hamburger, silly. It's the choice of the person enrolling in college. Perhaps the colleges nearby are, in his opinion, NOT perfectly fine.
That's how I felt about Fresno's and Reedley's community colleges. A lot of my friends did their GE at one of the two local ones. Me, I was never comfortable on either campus because I felt like it completely didn't challenge me and am really glad, in retrospect, that I didn't go to one.
That said, college WILL be different from high school, Crystal, even if you choose to (*gasp!*) go to a UC. ;-) It will challenge you in ways that you can't forsee now. And the atmosphere -- unless by some shot of Fate you are unlucky enough to land at a university that has decided a high school on campus is somehow a GOOD IDEA (*coughFresnoStatecough*) -- is going to be radically different, also. In high school, you've got a lot of people who have often grown up together. In college, all the little cliques and groups disappear until you've been in it for a few years. Even then, it is much, much different.
