Early Years - Gold Rush (I need a nudge please)

The intro to this game said it was short. I've been completely through it 3 times now, using up the allowed number of moves - UNFINISHED!!! Ugh!
I have located the following items:
Envelope, letter opener, empty tea cup, orange peeler, the axe, the toy train, the knife-yielding coo-coo clock, and the potion.
I'm not allowed into the cellar and a woman screamed from one of the dressing rooms. I would've thought the lab had some important function...maybe with the potion.
There are (4) bedrooms, (2) guest rooms, (2) dining rooms, tons of long hallways, niches and storage areas. I have "looked" at each location, however I quit choosing "help" after getting the same question each time-instead of help.
Thank you for a slight hint to speed me to the end.
