Way back in the olden days when I lived in the mountains of eastern Kentucky, soft drinks were called "dope" or sometimes "doke." I always called them by brand name, so I got a big laugh out of dope, or soda. Frankly, I was pretty sure soda came in a yellow box with an arm and hammer on the front.

Here lately, I tend to call them soft drinks. In East Tennessee we have hard drinks and soft drinks.
