Yeah, yeah, pick on my example. Looking at it now, I actually agree with you, but I still have a complaint with people who use "is" with a plural object. Consider my example changed to "There's too many things on my mind!" (A completely true statement.)

This only makes sense to me. I've never understood putting punctuation not part of the original phrasing in the quote.
