Gold coins - From your inventory, you got the one as change, and probably dug the other one up where you got the Yuckyuck leaves. There's one in the forest hiding under some leaves and another in a dead end in that garden maze.

If you're asking "What garden?" you either didn't go riding bareback or you didn't search through the grass in the first few areas of the game (or both). Take a swim in the river to get back to the other side. You need to find something shiny in the grass, so to speak, and stocking up on stolen veggies is wise.
