Not too many years ago, we took a camping vacation in Myrtle Beach. A family of six in a Volkswagen microbus pulling a pop-up camper, could vacation at the beach for a total of $80. That's food, gas, campsite, and all other expenses.

Now, it costs more than that to park your car at the airport or a cruise ship dock for a week.
