Keep track of how many there are and where you found them. Four in total will get the soothsayer to give you something useful.
That carrot can be handy if you feel like horseback riding, but hold on to it for now since you have no silver. Try heading west from the general store; you'll find something in the bushes, and there's something else down by the riverbank.
