Murkon's Vengeance - stuck on level 8

Hello :)

I've been stuck on level 8 of Murkon's Vengeance for months (I keep coming in, having a go, giving up and forgetting about it for a while), but now I've discovered this place...

I've sort of gathered that different parts of the floor take you back several paces... but how do you track a continuous path to the nearest exit? Is there a way?

Any help much appreciated :)
