our evolving language

Not just English. Our languages are changing. They always have and always will, but recently there has been a spurt in their evolution.
People don't have problems any more. They have "issues." An issue used to be a single copy of a newspaper or magazine. The military does not provide clothing or equipment for a troop. It issues all that stuff. A single item such as a helmet is called an issue.
Wireless used to mean a radio. Short wave or AM radio's were called a "wireless." The term lasted longer in the UK than it did in the US. For a while, a radio was called a "transistor," but now it is more likely combined with various other devices and called a "sound system." "Boom box" is still used for portable sound systems, but is in danger of being phased out.
In the old days, sometimes people disappeared. Now they "go missing."
Pot used to be something on the stove. Now it grows in a patch way out in the woods.
A movie is now a "film" which is showed in a "cinema" instead of a theater.
Roads became highways, and then Interstates or freeways. A campground is now an RV park.
And language doesn't change. It evolves. Howard
