You don't need to make a map, you need to make a chart. Trying to make a map with actual directions won't work. Even if you've been to every area, you haven't tried every option. For example, "Kill him" and "Fight him" will actually take you to different screens. (Don't kill. Fight.)
Without completely spoiling it, if you have the opportunity to go "back and right," do it.
