Back from Otakon and still can't find my AGL notebook, but I can give you a hint on this. Okay, actually, I'm basically copying off of Sam's earlier hint, but it was a good hint.

The fight seems repetitive, but it's really not; it has different states depending on the wounds you've actually managed to inflict on the dragon. Once you've wounded a new spot, try different options.

Try a flowchart or something, to make sure you've tried all options in all "states" of the battle. Amongst the various options in the various states are wounding moves. As I recall, if you manage one of each, you can finish him off at the chasm, but I've tried a number of times to figure out the minimal series of moves and never managed it. It's possible one or two key wounding moves are required twice.

Personally, I think the dragon battle is the most frustrating battle in the game. Even the final scuffle at the end is easier to keep track of, IMO.
