In my opinion, if you do something that a person admires and greatly respects then that is a heroic act. If you do enough heroic acts that someone is inspired by your life in general (possibly only one), you are a hero to that person.

Other people wouldn't know their motives, so this person would still be a hero to others and has the potential to affect their lives for the better. Also, this person did save the baby, so he would most likely be a hero to the baby regardless.

By definition a hero is inspiring. It's possible that one act of a person is heroic without the person being a hero overall.

It would depend on the action, not complaining in a bad situation wouldnt require courage, running into a burning building would.
