Stuck in the Brackly Mystery

I got to the secret area with the note from Lord Brackly... then I go southwest into the tomb to find nothing... I never lit the candles or did anything with them, did I miss something?
Please help, it's driving me crazy. Even a simple hint would be wonderful.
