I like the Alien series. Always have. I'm a little spotty on the third
Alien movie, since I was watching all three in a row, and got
distracted at that point, and Alien: Resurrection was the first one
I saw, so things were a little confusing to me, but in general, I
like the Alien series, and I was kinda ticked that I didn't get to
see the Alien Director's Cut that was released last Halloween.

So it was with some excitement that I came to this movie,
hoping that it would live up to it's premise. As far as which side
I'm rooting for, I say Go Aliens! Never liked the Predators, or
maybe I just never liked Arnold Schwarzenegger.

This movie is best reviewed in Thirds. The first third of this
movie introduces us to our two main characters, and the crew
that will serve as Alien/Predator fodder later on. It introduces
the Pyramid beneath antarctica, and how it was discovered. It
gives us glimpses of the Alien's and Predators, but other then
that, not much happens. It's rather slow, and more detailed
about the process of how they're getting to the pyramid, as well
as power struggles in the group then is, I think strictly
nessecary.

The second third kicks off as the Sacrificial Chamber begins to
make... well... sacrifices. The Predators come down into the
pyramid, and get angry that the humans have taken their BFG
-9001's. This is probably the best third of the movie, with the
most action. The Predators take on the humans, and the Aliens,
and the Aliens take on the Predators and the humans, and the
humans for the most part just get slaughtered. There are some
good fights between the Aliens and the Predators, but during
them, the action is choppy, and hard to follow, so the
cumulative effect is one that is more confusing then exciting.
Though there are a few parts that detail just how experienced
the Predators are in a somewhat cool fashion.

The final third kicks off just as female lead gives the main
Predator his gun back, and forms a slight truce. The movie kinda
breaks down into goofiness after that, and the ending becomes
predictable, with only a few slight twists to interest you.

There is something that the filmmakers wanted to pass off as
shocking and twisting, and supposed to open the door for a
sequel (a door which had previous to this moment been closed
and locked), but unfortunately, it all passes off as stupid, and
laugh out loud bad.

So you have a movie with a history between the two warring
factions of mostly good movies (we'll ignore Predator 2 for now,
and to a certain extent, Alien Resurrection), which tries to pass
itself off as a horror/thriller, but sometimes comes across as a
sick twisted romance movie, with an ending that gave rise to
mutters of "Seeds of Chuckie" among the people previewing the
movie.
