Allergic Conjunctivitis has a symptom of swolen eyelids though it usually affects both eyes. Though you could have either of the other types (virul, bacterial). They can often be caused by what you're parents described, touching something with germs, then your eye.

Pink eye is a good suspect. That's what I call it because I can spell that. But a lot of things can give you a sore eye. You might ask your doctor.
