For instance, I met a fellow tourist in Hawaii once who was mistaken for a native there, by other natives. She said that back home in California, people often spoke Spanish to her, thinking she was Mexican/Hispanic, although she was actually of Japanese descent. I guess she just had a nice sort of "multicultural" look about her, or something. > > koalamom
One of the things I like about Hawaii is the mix of cultures and races. A lot of the people are mixed and it's sometimes hard to where one race stops and another begins. But I like to ride The Bus on Oahu and get away from the tourists where I can watch the locals. I see those tiny little elderly Japanese people and Connie Chung types, but it seems the younger people are harder to classify (for want of a better word). It may be because they don't dress in the traditional styles of the Asian countries. I hope someday to be able to tell Filipinos, Chinese, Japanese, Koreans, Hawaiians, Cherokees, etc. apart. No luck yet. Howard
