Murkons Refuge - please help

Help please,

I've been playing off and on for weeks and I'm still wandering around the first level. My team are all about level 8 experience and I want to get to the next level as I have to keep going back to Perrin so the monsters re-fresh or I would have nothing to hit!

I assume there is a key to be found somewhere. Please help before I go mad - spoilers fine
