Civil liberties, anyone? posted by Ellmyruh on Monday, December 17, 2001, at 17:51:12:
Jim Quinn talked about this on his morning show that I listen to. (Quinn is a political conservative and usually refers to himself as a civil libertarian.) Anyways, he had no sympathy for this girl getting booed off stage. His point was that it's about time that liberals finally got theirs. For years, academia had catered to the liberal viewpoint, and done all it could to squash conservative viewpoints on campus. Whenever David Horowitz or Clarence Thomas actually are invited to speak on a campus, there's massive protesting put up by students and faculty, but it's perfectly all right for some Marxist to come lecture, because after all, that's the political philosophy shared by the vast majority of academia.
Quinn also had to take issue with the massive contradiction being put forth by liberals now. For years, liberals have been the ones telling us how many trees we should plant on our golf course (some guy in VA or MD was jailed recently for not complying), telling us what religious symbols we're allowed to see and which we aren't, telling us that you don't need to work hard: we here at Government House will just send you a check, telling us that we don't need to have a semi-automatic weapon in our homes for protection. For years they've been telling us we don't really need all these rights we have. And now all of a sudden, they're on the individual rights bandwagon. Why? Quinn doesn't get it, and nor do I.
Quinn is tired of liberals always wanting to silence the right, simply because we disagree. Liberals are the ones who want to push "hate speech" legislation that makes it illegal for me to say that I believe homosexuality is wrong. Liberals are the ones who tried to get Dr. Laura thrown off the air for believing that homosexuality is wrong, and for saying so. Liberals are the ones who tried to ignore Matt Drudge as he investigated and reported on the Clinton scandals. So Quinn here has no sympathy for the left when they are finally silenced by the right. It's about time you got yours.
