This reminds me of a line from a Van Damme movie:

"You broke my record. I break your friends and now I break you!"

...or something like that. Why is the breaking of the Earth such a bad thing, anyway? I think it would be kinda cool if each piece still had enough gravitational force to hold a breathable atmosphere around it. We could mine the former core-side and live on the former topside! Gravity would be greatly reduced! I'm ignoring every factor that would lead to the extinction of humanity!
