To be honest, I'm looking more forward to Harry Potter at this point. I feel that LOTR is going to be a let down no matter want. I want an epic fantasy, an accurate adaptation of the book, I hope that Hollywood doesn't wreck the story... and I know I'm probably going to be dissapointed with it.

I'm finding it easier not to get my expectations too high for Harry Potter though. I'm not expecting a masterpiece, I'm expecting a fun movie I can get into, laugh at, and enjoy. I've read the books, and the directors have stated their intention to follow them as accurately as possible. That, and they had the guts to make it two and a half hours long. That's nearly as long as the first LOTR movie.

Incidentally, I doubt they'll be able to keep that level of detail up for all the movies. The fourth is a lot longer than the first... and there's no way they're doing a 6 hour movie. Who knows? Maybe they'll just decide a seven part series with the same actors is a bad idea, or the fad may die down a little by then.

I suppose I could afford to lower my expectations for the Fellowship of the Ring and enjoy it just like any other movie. I'm just afraid it's going to be hard seeing a classic story treated in a way I may not agree with.
