This musical remake of The Bishop's Wife, starring Denzel Washington, Whitney Houston, and Courtney B. Vance, is pleasant and fun, despite some grave problems. Certain scenes are confusing, the transformations each of the characters go through are less convincing than in the original, and while the running time is longer, less seems to happen. Yet the cast is enjoyable to watch, and there are some plot elements new to this version that should interest even those who know the original by heart. This is a "happy" movie first and foremost, and it accomplishes that end well.
