The second adventure of Jack Colton (Michael Douglas) and Joan Wilder (Kathleen Turner) is disappointing compared with its predecessor, but makes a fine stand alone adventure film. This one takes place in the Middle East. Joan visits as the guest of a sheik but is abducted. Meanwhile Jack forms an uneasy partnership with Ralph (Danny DeVito) and goes after her -- although perhaps not with entirely noble intentions. Like the original, though to a lesser extent, The Jewel of the Nile takes a pulp-grade adventure story and turns it into an A-list movie by its high production values and the delightfully spicy interaction of its characters.
