The third and final film in the Shaft series of the early seventies is a change of pace, as Shaft is sent to Africa, undercover, to bust a slave-trading organization at its source. It's interesting to see how often director John Guillermin has worked in Africa: he directed Tarzan, Sheena, and even did an Agatha Christie mystery on the Nile (Death On the Nile). With the move of the franchise to Africa, it fares neither better nor worse. I found Shaft In Africa the most involving of the three Shaft movies, but it also has the weakest script and the most gratuitous and improbable sensationalism.
