Tyrone Power had just about overplayed his hand in exotic costume dramas like this one by 1949, but Prince of Foxes isn't half bad. It's filmed in black and white, which for some reason adds the atmosphere that the drab Captain From Castile and The Black Rose lacked. It also has Orson Welles as the villain, an asset if ever there was one. I still say Power generally delivers wooden performances unless under the very best of directors (like Billy Wilder in Witness For the Prosecution), but this minor medieval adventure romp is downright entertaining.
