After Dr. No came out in 1962, spy fantasies were it. Clones and parodies were churned out one right after another. Predictably, most of these were weak. Our Man Flint, the best of the James Bond knock-offs of the sixties, succeeds because it borrows only the formula; the hero himself bears only a surface similar to Bond, and the rest is an original character.
James Coburn plays Derek Flint, an American spy who dabbles in something resembling Eastern mysticism. He's cool, suave, and loaded with gadgets, and he infiltrates an elaborate badguy hideout. Sure, Bond does all this better, but Our Man Flint is an entertaining if dated excursion into the genre.
