I am not a big Monty Python fan. I do love some of it, but as much as I love British humor, I find Monty Python to be too frequently gross and obnoxious for my taste. Yet I must tip my hat to Monty Python and the Holy Grail, probably the best thing Monty Python ever did. It is random, silly, nonsensical, lunatic, sometimes crude, but almost always hilarious and never boring. It's relentlessly creative and unforgettable: there are too many classic lines and scenes to count, though no doubt there are many die-hard fans out there who can quote the script by heart.
Although others, like myself, may find The Holy Grail to their liking even if they aren't normally fans of Monty Python, this film is definitely not for all tastes. I mean, it's absurd. Really absurd. But it's not random: the dialogue and its delivery is exact and refined. This is the work of a prized and talented comedy troupe at the top of their form.
