Here Comes Mr. Jordan is quite simply the finest film of its type. It's about a man whose soul is pulled from his body before his time (by a novice angel). Before things can be set right, his body is cremated. Without giving too much away, it is decided to let the man temporarily use another body to sort out his life. There is no end to the complications that arise as the friends and relatives of each of the dead men struggle to figure out what's going on.
It's a comedy, yes. It's also a warmhearted story with characters one can't help but care about. It's refined and polished and full of nuance. It's a film one can appreciate through successive viewings as much as the first. I say no more except to recommend the film highly; its status as one of the great classic comedies is more than deserved.
