Reviews and Comments

This made-for-cable sequel to DragonHeart falls flat on its face in trying to recreate the fun of the original film and re-establish the chemistry between the characters. The special effects look poor by today's standards (and by the standard of the 1996 film), and as effective as Robby Benson was in voicing the Beast in Disney's Beauty and the Beast, he just can't match up to Sean Connery's Draco. And what's up with the story? It seems to have been concocted by shuffling random pages from different drafts together. The villain is one of the least comprehensible movie villains of all time. Dragonheart: A New Beginning is senseless, stupid, and laughably acted. It's yet another swords-and-sorcery movie made by filmmakers who don't understand the genre -- or even just sound general filmmaking principles, for that matter.
