Fifth of the six Mr. Wong mysteries, and the last one to star Boris Karloff in the title role, Doomed To Die involves the shooting of a business tycoon after one of his ships is destroyed. The prime suspect is the son of his business rival, who wants to marry his daughter. The trail of clues is a dubious one; it's not a very solid mystery, and frequently it feels like it's marching through the mystery formula mechanically. People shoot guns at people creeping about in the dark because that's what happens in mystery movies, not because it's what happens in life. Still, there's something nostalgic about this look at what used to pass for popcorn entertainment.
