After a commercial lull in their career while they experimented with variations on their formula, Abbott and Costello decided to reignite it with a sequel to their first hit. Buck Privates took place in the beginning of World War II; this one chronicles the mishaps of the characters after it ended. Of course, most Abbott and Costello films could conceivably be considered sequels of each other. The plot scenarios only matter so far as they can provide a framework for Abbott and Costello's brand of comedy.
Although it succeeded at boosting the team out of their career lull, Buck Privates Come Home leaves a lot to be desired. Abbott and Costello humor was never highbrow, but here it is unusually uninspired.
