Adventure Games In General
- The basic idea. The object of each of the adventure games at
this site is to fulfill some goal given at the start of the game.
You accomplish this by exploring the world, collecting objects which
may be of use later, and, in general, doing whatever you can. Have
fun. Explore.
- Adventure games are turn-based. This means that nothing will
happen until you do something. When you do something, the other
entities in the world have a chance to do things, too. But nothing
in these games are "timed." Fast reflexes are not helpful.

- Selecting a move. To make a move, select the option that
corresponds to the action you wish to take. Then press the OK
button. If you are carrying any objects, you can select the
object (and then press the OK button) to examine that object.
- Arrangement of moves. There can be up to three columns of
options available to you at any given time (excluding the options
that involve examining your inventory). The leftmost column
contains options that are available to you throughout the entirety
of the game. The middle column contains options that involve
moving to a new location in the world. The rightmost column
contains other sorts of actions.
- Text blocks. The blue block of text at the top of the screen
is a general description of the area you're currently in in the
game. The pink block of text, if present, describes the results of
your previous action.
- Your game is saved automatically. Every time you make a move,
your game is saved for you. Thus, you can leave the game at any time,
without warning, and return again later. When you log back into
the game with your username and password, you will be returned
to where you left off.
- You can lose but not permanently. It is possible to make
certain moves in these games that will kill you or make it
impossible to complete your quest. However, you will be notified
when you make such a move and will be able to "undo" that move.
Thus, you may play these games to your heart's content without fear of
doing anything that will render your quest impossible. (Not all
adventure games guarantee this.) If you end up in a spot where you
believe your quest is no longer solvable, it is probably because
there's something you can do that you haven't thought of yet.
- Hints are available in limited quantity. If you're stuck in a game,
consult the hints page for it. The hints page for each game covers
99% of the situations people get stuck in. If you've consulted the
hints page and you're still stuck, you can post to the
Hints Board on the RinkWorks
Message Forum. Be careful not to spoil the game for anyone. Be
sure to supply your username in your post (but not your password,
obviously).
- Winners enter the Hall of Fame. Each game has a "Hall of Fame"
that lists the people who have completed the game in the order
they completed it. If you win a game, you'll be listed.
- RinkWorks is not responsible for lost saved games.
Our game engine has been extensively tested, and we have not had
any saved games be lost or corrupted except by freak server problems.
In the event that your saved game is lost, we will do our best to
restore it (from backups and/or by manual reconstruction), but this
may not always be possible, and we cannot be held responsible if it
isn't.
