The Chieftains are great. A bodhran, pronounced more or less "bowron", is a type of drum. It's a wooden hoop with a hide stretched over one side (imagine a very large tambourine without the jingly bits) and it's held vertically on the lap with one hand and played with a little paddle-type double-ended stick with the other hand. It sounds wonderful, and completely unlike any other sort of drum I've heard.
