I believe you are thinking of Top Cat, a Hanna-Barbera cartoon about cats living in a dump. Garfield was kind of cool at one time, probably because I was much younger. Heathcliff always reminded me of a cross between Marmaduke and Dennis the Menace. I would only see it in my grandparents paper, the Modesto Bee, but I don't know if it is still running.
Get Fuzzy is growing on me. Now, if we could only get rid of Overboard!!

It seems like nobody has ever heard of it... > > And who's Heathcliff? > > My newspaper doesn't get Garfield or Heathcliff, but I know who both of them are. I think Heathcliff had his own cartoon show for a while, didn't he? He lives in a city dump, I believe, and is orange with black stripes, like Garfield. > > And I just got "Get Fuzzy" in my newspaper just a short while ago. It's become one of my favorites. Bucky rules, but I think Satchel the dog is best. > > Charon
