  Seriously, I think vi is the greatest single piece of software ever written, bar none.  Well, maybe UNIX is better than vi, because it wouldn't be easy to run vi without a good OS under it, but I digress.  
  However, there is no reasone why you'd have to go out and learn vi to code in AGLL.  If you've already got a text editor that you're comfortable with, use that.  Vi isn't going to do anything more for you at this time.  However, if you are in the market for a text editor, or you don't have a text editor at all and don't mind spending a little time figuring out all the ins and outs of an admitedly esoteric program, then vi is the place to start, in my not-so-humble opinion.
