RinkAwards 2000: Sting II Stings Competition

April 1, 2001

RinkChat, NH - "The Sting, Part II" blew away its competition at the RinkAwards ceremony, which lasted nearly four and a half hours. It won the Best Archive award, edging out fellow nominees "The Sting, Part I," "Dave Makes Dinner," "Split Stephen," and "The Great Ginger Ale Tragedy." It also won Best Prank Archive and won the Best Female Comic Improvisor award for its leading actress, Brunnen-G.

Among those thanked for her Best Female Comic Improvisor award, Brunnen-G thanked Stephen, her opponent, "for being so incredibly nasty and hard to fool that it came as an even greater victory to do so." Brunnen-G also won the Best Improvised Song or Poem award for "God Save the Leen" in "Songs and Getting Older" and the Best Non-Speaking Appearance award for "How the Grishny Stole RinkMas."

Stephen took home the Best Male Comic Improvisor award but for "Split Stephen" rather than the more vocally supported "The Sting, Part I." In his acceptance speech, he thanked those who voted for him and invited fellow RinkyDinks Dave and Darien to "eat a bag of hell." Stephen also took home an award for Radebur as Best Alternate Personality, and, in one of the evening's highlights, shared the Best Male Comic Conversationalist award with Dave and Darien. When the three piled onto the stage to accept their awards, they immediately engaged in a brawl on stage and had to be forcibly returned to their seats.

Dave's other awards included shared awards for Best Kick and Best Ban and solo wins for Best First Appearance In an Archive, for his debut role in "Dave Makes Dinner," and Best Self-Chat.

Mousie won the Best Female Comic Conversationalist award for her role in "Mrs. Girlagong," but she couldn't be present to accept it. She also one the Best Onomatopoeia award and shared the Best Closing Line award with Leen and Morris.

Other wins included Nyperold, for Best Pun; Mia, for Best Label; Liface, for Best 733t ahX0r; and Sam, for Best Anecdote.

The categorized archive winners were largely expected, except for an upset in the Best Improvised Humor Archive, where the sleeper hit "Girly Stuff" took home an award many thought would go to "Stupid Day 2000," "The Flame War," or another sleeper nominee, "The Cat Outside the Window of Hate."
