Donald O'Connor, an inspired casting choice, plays Aladdin in this (deep breath) English language French-Italian Arabian Nights tale. O'Connor has just the right kind of charisma, energy, and boyish enthusiasm to make this film a delightful romp. The plot is highly reminiscent of The Thief of Baghdad, and though The Wonders of Aladdin may not compare with the best versions of that, this is a gem of a fantasy in its own right. Fans of Arabian Nights movies should take note, and others just might be made fans.
