The Spider and the Fly, an average made-for-cable whodunnit, will probably entertain mystery fans, but it's doubtful that it will make a lasting impression. It's not particularly clever, but it's certainly devious enough, and when all is revealed, it is fun to deconstruct the film and unearth the hidden irony. No, it's not great filmmaking, but it's a diverting if temporary pleasure.
