DreamWorks studios countered the movement to make animated films big budget show spectaculars by making this one an unassuming little adventure comedy. It uses the old white-guys-mistaken-for-gods plot as the setting for some amusing shenanigans. The main characters are only interested in the spoils of a lost civilization and, later, the woman who sees through their charade. There is nothing earthshatteringly new or profound here; it's no more or less than a dose of lighthearted fun, and a good one at that.
