The Lion King is not, as the trailers would have you believe, thirty seconds long -- it's the 32nd animated feature to come from Disney studios...get it? The film has great Broadway-style songs and an even better musical score by Hans Zimmer, but suffers slightly from an overly simplistic plot and characters less well rounded than previous Disney films. But except that The Lion King comes from Disney, making expectations high, such criticism would be laughable. It's a lot of fun, voiced by a talented all-star cast (most notably James Earl Jones as the young lion Simba's father and Rowan Atkinson as the bird Zazu), and it's not particularly difficult to see why it became the phenomenal box office success that it was.
