Reviews and Comments

The Ghost Breakers is Bob Hope's contribution to the haunted house comedy craze of its time. The haunted house comedy is a subgenre with limited potential -- more often than not, exaggerated scared reactions of the protagonists are relied upon as the sole source of humor, though that's never adequate. But The Ghost Breakers breaks that mold (slightly), by incorporating a goodly amount of humor outside its haunted house. Even inside, Bob Hope's shivers and wisecracks in the face of terror are much funnier than those of most. All things considered, The Ghost Breakers, though no classic, is a very funny film.
