Reviews and Comments

Alfred Hitchcock was never comfortable with comedy, but he made three good ones just the same. The Farmer's Wife is one of them, a silent film about a man who decides to remarry after his wife dies. But who should his new bride be? He puts a list of women together and visits each in turn, proudly informing them of the honor he is prepared to bestow upon them. He's flabbergasted to be turned down.

The film is not more than a simple amusement, but it is a sweet and elegant one, finding humor in the quirks of human nature and tempering cynicism with sentiment in just the right dosage.
