This was a commercial success when it came out, and I'm not sure why. I have to believe it is due to the high quantity of Whitney Houston songs, which I enjoyed myself. The story, in spite of the potential of the premise for a good character study, is paper thin and formulaic. This is just the standard Kevin Costner movie, with Costner playing the same reclusive, troubled character he always does. Of the two major one plot twists, one was unbelievable and one was cliched and predictable. That leaves Houston's songs with quite a burden to carry. My advice? Buy the soundtrack album instead.
