This generally entertaining but very dark black comedy is one of those vicious commentaries on the cutthroat innards of Hollywood. The stars do wonderful acting jobs, and the screenplay has an admirable knack for shifting the viewer's sympathy back and forth between the characters. It hits hard, but it stands in the shadow of greater movies that have done more or less the same thing with more power, like The Player and Barton Fink. I liked the movie, but for me, the film's conclusion just wasn't convincing.
