Reviews and Comments

Entertaining but slow film about World War II intrigue in Africa. The male characters are pretty good, but Gene Tierney's pivotal character never quite achieves the depth the part demands. The final scenes, which abruptly turn to sentimental propaganda, don't quite work the way the similar closing scenes of the far superior Mrs. Miniver do. But as an escapist adventure, this film has distinguished appeal.
