Star 80 is a well-made, well-acted, but ultimately depressing and overbearing drama about the brutal murder of Playboy model Dorothy Stratten. The director is Bob Fosse, and Star 80 is about as far removed from his legendary work in musical theater. The story is told confidently and with considerable insight into its characters. But it is, as I say, a depressing, gloomy film, and it's not so much enjoyed as it is admired. In spite of its achievements in storytelling and the portrayal of characters on screen, I do not recommend the film except to film scholars.
