Once you get around the awkward question of why this remake of the 1954 Billy Wilder classic was ever made, Sydney Pollack's 1995 version is pleasantly diverting. It's like seeing a competent but inferior stage production of your favorite Broadway play -- strictly speaking it's not as good as the "real" version, but it's still fun to see a fresh interpretation of the story. It helps, too, that the cast is sincere and the direction confident.
