In this remake of My Favorite Wife, Doris Day and James Garner play the lead roles. The film relies more on slapstick than its predecessor, which, while not bad in itself, leads to a lesser overall effect. What Move Over, Darling is most successful at is illustrating how much better directed the original is. But the comparison is unfair, because the film is highly entertaining when taken on its own terms. The stars, both accomplished in this genre, have charisma and chemistry it takes to be not just funny but affecting as well.
