This film version of Daniel Defoe's novel is almost nothing like the book; nevertheless, it makes for a solid, satisfying story in its own right. Robin Wright plays the lead in a highly respectable performance, neither glorifying nor sensationalizing her controversial character, but maintaining a delicate balance between the two. She is ably assisted by Morgan Freeman and Stockard Channing in co-starring roles. I recommend Moll Flanders highly, even to those not normally fond of period costume dramas.
